Normal Fetal Cardiac Structural Variants
Remember!
Position: Cardiac 4 Chamber View in the left chest at ~45° to the sternum to spine axis
Size: CC/TC =~ 50% or able to fit 3 hearts within the thorax cross section
Function: Both ventricles should squeeze equally; the heart should not rock in the chest
Rhythm: The rhythm should be regular at a rate of 120 to 180 BPM (variable with GA)
Proportion: All valve, vessel and chamber pairs should be about the same size; IVC = SVC,
RA = LA, TV = MV, RV = LV, Aorta = MPA. Right sided structure become
slightly > left sided structures after 22 weeks and noticeably so
after 30 weeks gestation, but NO DISPROPORTION.
